Honesty is a positive motivation tool, CIPD claims
Employee motivation can start with something as simple as being honest.
This is the view of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which pointed out that ensuring everyone knows the business situation can help workers to "be united around a common aim".
The professional body was reacting to a survey by chrysaliscourses.co.uk, which discovered that one-third of staff feel "completely unappreciated" in their job.
Some 60 per cent of Britons are unhappy in their current role, while 30 per cent claimed to feel unchallenged.
CIPD resourcing and talent planning adviser Claire McCartney said that the current economic climate has seriously dented motivation.
She remarked: "Organisations need to develop the people management skills of their line managers and acknowledge the importance of saying thank you for a job well done."
However, Ms McCartney added that the relationship works both ways and that staff must also be doing all they can to contribute during tough times.
She suggested that all employees should seek development opportunities to ensure they are equipped with the skills to push their business forward.
