Homeworking ''offers numerous eco and lifestyle benefits''
Allowing staff to work from home offers numerous lifestyle benefits, along with being great for the environment.
According to thinktank the Green Alliance, businesses must do all they can to cut carbon emissions - and telecommuting is a simple solution which could be workable for many employees.
Senior policy advisor Rachel Cary said this type of lifestyle benefit could be especially useful for those who live in rural areas.
However, she pointed out that staff must also be careful to use their own homes efficiently to ensure the maximum CO2 saving.
"[It is important to] make sure that people only heat the rooms which they are working in so that you don''t have a lot of carbon leakage," Ms Cary remarked.
Earlier this month, transport minister Norman Baker told the Daily Telegraph that lifestyle benefits such as telecommuting can "do wonders" for people''s work-life balance.
He revealed ambitious plans for creating a situation where the rush hour ceases to exist due to more people operating from their residence.
