Michell Instruments launches voluntary benefits (3 April 2008)

Michell Instruments has launched an online voluntary benefits programme to help motivate its employees and to drive more of them to the company intranet.

The new scheme, Michell Rewards, is administered by You at Work and offers employees at the manufacturer discounts at a number of high street stores such as Dixons and Curry's. It also provides them with savings on purchases made at various affiliated restaurants and book stores.

Employees are given a log in code and password to access the online programme at work or at home.

David Leonard, operations director at Michell Instruments: "The real aim is to partly motivate staff, and to get people to use the intranet more as there is loads of stuff [there for them]."

To communicate the new programme, the employer sent out teaser emails and put up posters around the workplace.

Since the new package has been introduced, the firm has seen staff turnover cut by 40%, recruitment costs down by a third and the take-up of childcare vouchers has doubled. The company now intends to conduct regular surveys and use focus groups to ask staff for their views.
