Ed Miliband: All workers should be offered flexible benefits
All workers should be given the chance to enjoy flexible benefits in order to improve their quality of life.
This is the view of Labour Party leadership candidate Ed Miliband, who argued that allowing people to enjoy their life outside of work is good move for the economy.
Writing a column for the Mirror, the former environment secretary said that Britain should not be happy with the fact that its working hours are longer than anywhere else in western Europe.
He argued that offering flexible benefits, such as personally tailored hours, will make the UK a fairer place to work.
Although Mr Miliband is proud of what the Labour Party achieved while in government, he said it must learn from its failures.
"Let''s recognise many of the things we value in life are outside of work. Too little time for life away from work is not just bad for people, but it makes no sense as economic policy," he remarked.
Last year, the Chartered Management Institute''s chief executive Ruth Spellman said that flexible benefits can allow for more effective management of people and time.
