Homeworking as part of flexible benefits ''can help widen recruitment net''
Maximising communications technology and offering homeworking as part of an employee''s flexible benefits can help with recruitment.
That is according to Hugo Harber, the director of convergence and network strategy at Star, who believes more employers could benefit from remote workers.
"By providing integrated conferencing and collaboration tools you can reduce the need to travel and increase productivity," he said.
Mr Harber pointed out that web meetings and shared desktops, combined with established technologies like email systems and mobile phones, could allow recruiters to widen the geographical net when seeking new employees.
He said there were many other benefits to employing remote workers, such as minimising travel time and environmental damage.
The comments were in response to research released by Frost & Sullivan last week which indicated that businesses were aiming to save money by unifying communications, with web conferencing services increasing by 19.3 per cent across Europe in 2009.
