Unilever trumpets employee benefits scheme expansion
Unilever has trumpeted its employee benefits scheme, claiming a pilot was successful enough to warrant a full rollout across the company.
The Fit Business programme involves giving regular health checks to staff and offering diet and fitness advice to those who appear to need it.
During the year-long pilot, which involved 104 office staff, a nine per cent reduction in the number of people classed as overweight was recorded.
Health and vitality manager Brecon Jones told HR Magazine this data justifies the plans.
"We acknowledge the health of people will not be the same as the rest of the workforce, but that''s actually a reason to continue this project," he remarked.
Last year, BBC News reported on the progress of the employee benefits trial at Unilever''s Port Sunlight factory in Merseyside.
Staff member Sean McInnon said he was feeling the benefits of the scheme and felt healthier and in a better mindset.
The 21-year-old claimed the standard of his work improved as a result.
