Government plans for employee benefits in the spotlight

Ahead of chancellor George Osborne''s emergency budget on June 22nd, the government''s plans for the welfare system and employee benefits schemes have been put in the spotlight by a news report.

In an article published today (June 1st), the Guardian says new welfare secretary Iain Duncan Smith may have many ideas for how to reform Britain''s working laws, but the recent cuts could mean some measures are unaffordable.

The new coalition government''s policies on tax breaks, childcare vouchers and cycle to work schemes are not yet known.

However, Mr Duncan Smith has been vocal in his determination to offer more incentives to get people back into the workplace, while providing stronger measures to deal with those who try to avoid work.

He has also signalled his intention to significantly cut the number of people on incapacity benefit - a figure of 2.65 million - by re-assessing 30,000 claimants a week.

A report by MoneyMarketing suggests that better information may be required on flexible benefits schemes, with numbers of companies considering the cost to be prohibitive.
