''More employee engagement with younger workers needed''
Businesses can improve their levels of employee engagement with younger workers, according to chairman of the Recruitment Society.
Steve Huxham said that even though the government has provided extra help and support for younger people and lower earners, it could be too little too late for some individuals.
He was making his comments after a report by the Resolution Foundation showed that low earners in the 25-34 age group struggled more in the recession because they have been overlooked.
"From an employer point of view, for those people who are in work, and are younger and on a lower income, there is always the issue of how much responsibility should be with the employer - particularly the larger ones - to train and develop their people," he said.
"Some employers are very good [at this] but it is very patchy. So as part of their need to both attain those people and to improve their prospects; there is a lot more that can be done by employers to encourage their younger workers who are unqualified to take on extra courses and skills."
Younger workers can be motivated by receiving tailored benefits suited to Generation-Y workers such as money off vouchers and access to social network sites.
