British American Tobacco refreshes flex (6 August 2007)

British American Tobacco, the world’s second largest stock market listed tobacco group is launching a new, refreshed flexible benefits programme - offering employees a broader range of benefits and enhanced flexibility.

You at Work has been appointed to create and implement the scheme using their in-house technology.

You at Work, will enable British American Tobacco to reduce its number of providers from five to one - delivering an enhanced flex scheme that meets the company’s key objectives of giving greater choice to employees and increasing the number of lifestyle and leisure benefits available. In particular, British American Tobacco has identified ‘attracting and retaining high quality employees’ as a key objective for You at Work’s refreshed scheme.

Enhancements to the new flexible benefits platform include tax-free parking and discounted cinema tickets. And, for the first time, British American Tobacco employees will be able to access a dedicated telephone helpline.

Kristy Gallagher at British American Tobacco commented: “Flex has been running successfully for a couple of years now but we wanted to refresh the scheme to offer even greater flexibility to our employees – particularly focusing on enhancing the voluntary benefits offer. We also recognise the need to attract high-level people to our company and in order to do so we need to offer a good salary and benefits package. And this new flex scheme should help to ensure we’re above average and competitive in that area.”

“We wanted to work with a company that was enthusiastic about the business they were in – and we really got that impression from You at Work. They knew what they were talking about and they came to the table with lots of ideas, which impressed us. We think our employees are going to be really pleased with the changes.”

Sally Winter, Marketing Manager at You at Work, added: “We’re delighted that British American Tobacco has chosen You at Work. We’re looking forward to implementing the enhancements to their flexible benefits scheme and introducing a great range of voluntary benefits. We’re on the same wavelength in our approach to voluntary benefits. We want to see them working, not just as a great stand alone benefit, but also as a support to British American Tobacco’s flex scheme and broader HR objectives.”

You at Work offers a range of employee benefit solutions to companies of all sizes. These include communications, flexible benefits and voluntary benefits – from CDs, books, flowers and gifts to holidays, days out and health club membership.
